What is the best way to sell handmade beaded jewelry?

Written by Jewelry on January 23, 2010

I make jewelry with beads and twisted wire. I have sold a few pieces but I mostly make pieces as gifts for friends and family. I tried selling a few necklaces on Ebay but they never sold. Does anyone have advice on how to sell handcrafted jewelry? Thanks!

I like going to the markets… there are sure to be craft markets somewhere in your area. However, you could always try leaving some on consignment at a trendy boutique whose outfits you think your jewellery would complement. Just make sure you do it with receipts and an agreed method of payment in writing.

Look for the right are, one where there are varied boutiques, cafes, maybe hairdressers and an area that attracts the right crowd. The best form of advertising is to actually wear your own jewellery. It’s amazing how often someone will ask where you got it. best of luck.

No money in it. They all come out of asia and south america for a penny a piece. You could try doing the market stalls, but you’ll have to have other stock to back it up and don’t expect to make a lot.

Have you considered selling your jewelry at a flea market or some other type of open market area? That might be the ticket for you to get more publicity for your jewelry. What about having a retailer, maybe like a small mom and pop jewelry store, include your products for sale for a small percentage of the profits? Yard sales, barbecues, pot luck events, work-related events, or anything else that will advertise your jewelry will probably work. Try selling your products daily like those impromptu Avon representatives do at work. That will let people know that you’re selling custom-made jewelry that may appeal to them. To be an effective seller, you have to advertise constantly. Good luck.

Here is a couple of ideas that are FREE to start with.

Set up your on web page on http://www.freewebs.com where you can show pictures of your jewelry.

Then advertise your jewelry on the various FREE sites that you can find and reference the freewebs.com site for people to see what the jewelry looks like.

I make hemp bracelets and I take mine to my tanning salon. It’s locally owned, so they can do that, but they put them in their display case and sale them for me. Try like a locally owned boutique, or make yourself a website of them
