What is the best jewelry to wear with a golden-yellow prom dress?

Written by Jewelry on December 23, 2009

I have a short golden-yellow prom dress with a black beaded belt from BCBG and I need some ideas about what jewelry I should wear with it. Thanks!

If the belt is beaded, I would go with black beads. Try to find something that matches the belt as to really accentuate it and make it stand out. DO NOT wear silver!

A lot of factors affect what you should wear exactly. If your dress is strapless, wear long earrings to accentuate your shoulders, but if your hair is up, I would go with a thinner strand so the earrings wont distract from the outfit.

Pearls are also a good choice if you ditch the belt, but you may want to keep the belt depending on shape of the dress so your waist wont get lost in the fabric.

    Hope that helps! :)

If you’re gonna wear the black belt, then go with black jewelry, or you could try yellow gold jewelry and see how it looks.

    Have fun at prom!

    NO SILVER clash!

wear a pair of delicate gold earings with cream pearls in them

then an inlaid necklace with the same colored pearls.

Often times skin tone can have an effect on this as well, but from a jeweler’s POV I’d suggest the following:

Because the dress is golden-yellow, you want to avoid jewelry that is silver or white-metal in color. If you choose gold jewelry, it needs to be very simple, and I’d suggest only black very dark stones, say a single gold chain with perhaps a round black center stone, and drop gold ear-rings.
Steer away from any vibrant colors in the accessories, though you could get away with amber or yellow quartz. I’ll again emphasize understated jewelry for this dress/belt combo, because the black on yellow is a very striking contrast already, and if they are of quality, they can pretty much stand on their own.
Again, it would help to see the dress, belt, and if you included skin-tone, but this is the take I’d have being a 25 year old gay male silversmith with 9 years of experience.
