How long can you leave the jewelry out on a tongue piercing before it closes?
Written by Jewelry on February 13, 2010I have a labret piercing and I know I can take the jewelry out for at least several days without it closing, and I was wondering how long you can leave the jewelry out in a tongue piercing if you’ve had it for a few years because I would need to take jewelry out during work for my career of choice but I still want to get my tongue pierced.

it depends on your body, really. there is no definitive answer.
me personally, I had my tongue pierced for three years, never took the jewelry out except for if I was switching out barbells.it took another three years for it to close completely when I took it out (which I did because I had both stretched and ripped the top part of the piercing due to a bad choice in jewelry)

The tongue is one of the fastest-healing body parts. It wouldn’t take very long.

Tongues can close up in as little as 15 minutes on some people, but for the most part, it’s a few hours. Check with your employer to see if a retainer is acceptable.
