How do you clean your jewelry?
Written by Jewelry on July 3, 2010What’s everybody’s favorite method for cleaning your gold, diamonds, other precious gemstones? I know some ppl take their stuff to the jewelry store and have them do it and some ppl get the chemicals & equipment and do it at home..
I’ve heard simply soaking diamonds in a solution of hot water & degreasing cleaner will make ‘em sparkle like crazy. Any home remedies you guys know of? And does anybody have any favorite products to recommend?

I know this is going to sound a bit crazy, but a baby toothbrush (one that i super soft) can do wonders! I love cleaning any jewelry that has any diamonds or CZ’s (I’m sure it would work for any other type of stones, too). All I do is run it under warm water and gently scrub. You could do that with jewelry cleaner too (sometimes I use foaming hand soap…). I’ve also heard of using toothpaste (I guess it works well because it’s gentle, yet abrasive). Your diamonds come out super shiny! I love this method of cleaning jewelry because it’s very inexpensive and only takes about two minutes!!

WalMart has a large selection of jewerly clean and they all pretty much work the same. Or you could try heating up Windex and using an old tooth brush to clean your jewerly.

For:Gold
Soak for 15 minutes in a solution of two cups warm water and a few drops of a mild dishwashing liquid, like Joy. Gently scrub with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Rinse with warm water, and dry with a soft cloth.
For:Diamonds
Soak for 20 minutes in a solution of one cup warm water and 1/4 cup ammonia. Then gently scrub with a soft-bristle toothbrush, getting into the small areas between the diamond and the setting. Rinse with warm water, and lay on a tissue to dry. If your diamonds are set in platinum, this method will also clean the setting.
